AllMy Gifts — FAQs
Before You Buy
What exactly is AllMy Gifts?
AllMy Gifts is a personal gift-tracking app that runs in your browser. It helps you remember what gifts you've given and received across all your relationships, bank gift ideas for the future, and stay ahead of upcoming occasions. All your data lives in a file on your own device — there's no account to create and no subscription fee.
What do I need to run it?
- Computer: Google Chrome 86+ or Microsoft Edge 86+ on Windows, macOS or Linux. These support auto-save and automatic folder backups. Safari 14+ and Firefox 90+ also work, but without auto-save — you download a copy of your data file after each session and re-open it next time.
- Mobile device or tablet: iOS/iPadOS 15 or later (Safari, or Chrome for iOS), or Android 8.0 or later (Chrome 86+ / Edge 86+). On Android, Chrome 132 and later can also do automatic folder backups; on iPhone and iPad they aren't possible — use Back up to a cloud folder in Settings instead, which saves straight into iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox. Older iPhones and iPads are not supported — the app says so plainly rather than just failing.
- Excel or another spreadsheet app: Not required. Optional if you want to open the raw data file directly.
- Language: English (all versions currently).
- Internet connection: Only needed for initial registration and optional version checks. The app itself runs entirely offline.
These are the browsers and versions we test on and support. The app may well run elsewhere, but we can't guarantee it and can't troubleshoot it.
Do I need a subscription?
No. AllMy Gifts is a one-time purchase. You pay once and own it. Future versions may be sold separately, but your existing license is not affected by new version pricing.
What's included in the download?
- The app — a single HTML file you open in your browser
- README.txt — getting-started guide
There's no data file to unpack. The first time you open the app it creates your data file wherever you choose, and offers to fill it with sample entries so you can explore before entering anything of your own.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your gift data, people list, and ideas are stored entirely in a spreadsheet file on your own device. We have no server copy, cannot see your data, and cannot recover it. The app sends nothing to us automatically. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I activate after purchase?
After buying on Etsy, visit digitals.guv1.com/register with your Etsy order number and email address. You'll receive a license key by email. Enter it in the app under Settings → License. Registration is free and takes about a minute.
Can I lose my purchase if something goes wrong?
Once you download the app file, it's yours locally. You can have your license key emailed to you any time at digitals.guv1.com/register/lookup using your registered email address. Keep a backup of your data file using the built-in backup feature.
Getting Started
How do I open the app?
Open the app's HTML file in your browser — Chrome or Edge on a computer gives you the full feature set. On first run, choose Create a new data file to start (the app offers you sample data so you can look around first), or Open my data file if you already have one. On a computer the app will ask for access to a folder — this is how it auto-saves your data.
Why does it ask for my license key before anything else?
Your license key is what switches on saving. You can open the app and explore the whole thing without one — add people, browse the sample data, look around — but nothing is written to your file until the key is in. Once you enter it, the app asks where to keep your data file, and saves your changes as you work from then on. If you skip it, a banner stays on screen until you're ready.
What are the step-by-step helpers?
When you visit a screen for the first time, the app highlights the key elements and walks you through what each part does. You can skip or dismiss these. If you want to see them again, go to Settings → Tutorials → Replay.
How do I find my license key if I've lost it?
Visit digitals.guv1.com/register/lookup and enter your registered email address. Your key is emailed to you — for your privacy, it's never shown on screen.
Can I use the app on a different device?
Yes — your license covers devices you personally own and control, and there's no hard device limit for personal use.
You need two things on the new device: the app file and your data file. Copy both across (email, USB stick, or a cloud folder), then open the app and choose Open my data file.
If you keep your data file in a cloud folder — iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive — you can simply open it from there on the second device instead of copying it. Be aware that two devices editing the same file at once can cause the cloud service to create a conflicted copy, so close the app on one before working on the other.
Your license key travels with the data file, so on the new device the app recognizes it as soon as you open your file. That's a convenience, not a security control — the key is stored in the file in plain form and is easy to read. It's a personal license on an honor system: we're a small business, and we're trusting you.
Safari and Firefox — what's limited?
Safari and Firefox don't support the File System Access API, which is what lets the app write to your data file automatically. In those browsers the app works normally, but nothing is saved until you use Download a backup copy, and you re-open that file next time. Chrome or Edge on a computer gives the smoothest experience. The same limitation applies to every browser on iPhone, iPad and Android.
Data & Backups
How do I back up my data?
On a computer (Chrome or Edge): go to Settings → Backups, choose a backup folder, set the frequency, and the app copies your data file there automatically as you work. You can also press Back up now at any time. Choosing a folder that syncs to the cloud — OneDrive, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive — means your backups are off the device too.
On an Android phone or tablet: Chrome 132 and later can give a page access to a folder, so automatic backups work there just as they do on a computer — if Settings offers you a backup folder, use it.
On an iPhone or iPad: Safari can't give a page access to a folder, so automatic backups can't run there. Settings offers Back up to a cloud folder instead — it opens your device's own share sheet, and Save to Files puts a dated copy straight into iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. One tap at the end of each session. (If your browser doesn't offer a share sheet, Download a backup copy is there as a fallback.)
Simplest of all: keep your data file itself in a cloud folder. Then it's backed up as you work, and you can open it from your other devices.
I lost my data file. Can you recover it?
Unfortunately no — your data lives entirely on your device and we have no server copy. This is by design for privacy. Check your backup folder first. Going forward, turn on automatic backups in Settings, or keep your file in a cloud folder.
Can I open my data in Excel?
Yes. Your data file is a standard Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx). You can open it in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, or any compatible app. The app handles all reading and writing, so Excel is never required, but the file is always accessible to you directly.
License & Registration
Do I need to register?
Yes. Registration is free, takes about a minute, and gives you the license key you enter in Settings → License. It also links your purchase to your email address so you can have the key re-sent if you lose it, and lets us tell you about updates.
How many devices can I use the app on?
Your license is for personal use on devices you personally own and control. There's no hard device limit for personal use, but the license does not cover shared use across multiple people.
Can I share the app with a friend or family member?
Each person needs their own license, so please don't pass on the app file or your license key. A gift of AllMy Gifts is a great idea for a practical and useful gift for a friend or family member. Just buy a copy for them and send them the license key.
I was given a gift code — what do I do with it?
Go to digitals.guv1.com/register, choose “I was given a gift code” under Where did you buy?, and enter your code in the Gift Code field. You'll get your own license key by email. Gift codes can only be used once.
